The sound design for Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire at Middle Tennessee State University incorporated layers of cinematic sound much like is described in the script. We used upstage speakers for directional city scape sound, trains passing and blues music from the bar “around the corner.” We had speakers placed for sounds “upstairs” and “bathroom” and incorporated an aggressive train pass from stage to back of house at the critical rape scene.
